GOVERNMENT is encouraged by Zambian entrepreneurs complementing its efforts of fostering job creation and promoting economic growth.

Finance Deputy Minister Keith Mukata said yesterday at the launch of a new insurance company Focus General Insurance that Government was always proud when local entrepreneurs stepped up to the challenge pursuing investment, thereby contributing to national development.

Mr Mukata said the coming of Focus General Insurance marked a great milestone for Zambians because the company was wholly owned by Zambians.

“The ultimate goal of the Government’s economic growth and development strategy is to improve the quality of life for all Zambians and we have positioned the private sector of which you form a part as a very critical partner in this endeavour,” Mr Mukata said.

Mr Mukata said Zambian entrepreneurs had recorded a tremendous growth in the last five years.

He said the insurance sector had so far created more than 1900 jobs and that this figure would increase to more than 2000 in view of focus general insurance entrance to the arena.

Speaking at the same function, Registrar Pension and Insurance Authority Martin Libinga said it was gratifying to see Zambian entrepreneurs’ taking up a challenge to invest in an industry largely dominated by external partners.

Mr Libinga said this would not only help in the development of the economy but it would also bring investors into the sector because it had recoded tremendous growth in the past years.

He urged the insurance company to ensure that they served their customers diligently and be trustworthy and well governed with integrity.

Company director Isaac Gunda said the need for insurance could not be overemphasised as it provided financial protection and peace of mind to clients.
