A NDOLA-based pastor has joined the long list of men of “God” that have in the past used the church to commit all manner of sin starting from adultery to perhaps the most common – extortion.
The randy pastor has lost his wife after a bizarre incident that cannot easily be associated to a holy man of God.
Freeman Chisenga, 30, of Christian Family Pentecostal Church in Chipulukusu Compound, had sought divorce from his wife Juliet Chota, 23, on grounds that her mother pulled his private parts whenever the couple had a quarrel.
He also complained that Chota constantly suspected him of having extra-marital affairs when in his own mind he did not.
The pastor surprised the court when he pleaded with it to allow the divorce to go ahead so that he could continue with his ‘randy’ lifestyle that she accused him of.
“Your honour, my mother-in-law pulled my private parts during a scuffle with my wife because she suspected that I had a girlfriend and so I want the court to grant us divorce,” Chisenga said.
And Chota concurred with Chisenga’s plea for divorce so that she could have a peace of mind because he had no regard for her and did not hide his promiscuity.
She said Chisenga had illicit relationships with two female congregants whom she named as Bridget and Juliet.
She said Chisenga even fathered a child with Juliet, whom he brought into their house as an intercessor to pray for her (Chota) when she was expecting their first and only child.
She said Juliet had come to their house purporting that she was facing problems with the family of the man who wanted to marry her and Chisenga suggested that she move in so that he could pray for her.
But when Juliet’s fiancé left for school in Lusaka, she moved into the pastor’s house as an intercessor.
Chota said Juliet even used to apply anointing oil on her abdomen during her pregnancy as she was praying for her.
She further said Chisenga remained with Juliet in the house when she went to her parents’ house to deliver the baby.
Chota also narrated to the court how one day she caught Chisenga having sex with another girl at his friend’s house.
To cement her case, she produced before court a packet of condoms and a pink blouse, which was torn during a fight between her and the girl.
She also brought a bag that was initially hers but Chisenga went and gave it to his girlfriend and the bag contained a book that Chisenga and the girl pretended to have been studying.
Principal presiding local court magistrate Sarah Bwalya, sitting with senior local court magistrate Kaala Nyambe, granted divorce and castigated Chisenga for his behaviour not befitting a clergyman.
“You pretend to be a man of God and yet you are a womaniser who is endangering the lives of both your son and your wife,” Ms Bwalya said.
When Ms Bwalya asked Chisenga how long he had been ordained, he said he was decreed by his father, who is a pastor, when he was 13 years old. This revelation made the court conclude that his mischief was not surprising because he did not have time to play.
“We are not surprised, your pastoral work came too early and you did not have time to play around, so it is now after you are married that you want to play.”
The court ordered Chisenga to compensate Chota with K8,000 and advised Chota’s mother to stop meddling in her daughter’s marital affairs, adding that she had contributed to the divorce.
