Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani says the efficiency of the Zambia Police lies in the adequacy of its structure to respond to the demands of the ever dynamic security needs of the nation.

Speaking at the official opening of the Zambia Police Restructuring workshop in Lusaka today, Ms. Libongani says the evolution in the nature, form and complexity of crime globally necessitates the need to reorganize the structure of the Zambia police force.

Ms. Libongani notes that the realization of an ideal structure in the Police has been given top priority by the Patriotic Front Government.

She says this can be evidenced by the recent creation of new positions at high command level such as that of deputy Inspector General of Police and Police commissioners.

She notes that the Police structure in its present form is not adequate to enable the police to effectively provide quality security services to all citizens, adding that this is owing to the fact that the country’s population has continued to grow and the country’s economy has equally registered tremendous growth.

Ms. Libongani further states that crime has become sophisticated with the advent of globalization coupled with advancement in information communication technology which has brought with it an increase in organized crime.
