Zambia Railways Limited (ZLR) Chief Executive Officer Professor Muyenga Atanga has revealed that the company has purchased ten more coaches from South Africa and the coaches are expected to be in the country early next month.

Professor Atanga has told journalists in Lusaka today that following the Livingstone accident that saw nine coaches gutted into fire, the company has provided interim measures by providing seven more coaches and two trains are now fully operating.

He explains that each train carries ninety people and the company is unable to meet the high demand and thus the need for them to increase the capacity.

Professor Atanga says the coaches are costing three hundred thousand dollars each and the company is optimistic that the couches will be enough to meet the high demand they are currently facing.

He notes that the railway company wants to ensure that they provide enough coaches so as to avoid people putting their luggage in passages thereby creating congestion.
