ZAMBIA’s Gilbert Choombe was on Tuesday night clobbered out of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) World Championships by Uzbekistan’s Rakhmanov Sanjarbek in a light-welterweight contest.

Choombe, who was in the blue corner, lost his preliminary round fight on a unanimous points decision to Sanjarbek after suffering a 3-0 defeat during Day One of the 2013 championships that got underway in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Monday.
The fight that was officiated by Ireland referee, Michael Gallagher saw the Zambian awarded a 27-30 score from judge two Kheira Sidi Yakoub of Algeria followed by a 26-30 score from judge three, Dante de Castro from the Philippines and a 27-30 score from fifth judge Roland Juhasz of Hungary.
Coach Kennedy Kanyanta’s hopes of winning a medal at the competition now lies with Knock Out specialist, Mbachi Kaonga, who in under one year has scored two major KO’s that have landed opponents in the hospital.
Kaonga was last evening scheduled to fight Zimbabwean Brighton Asiambund in what is expected to be an exciting Southern African welterweight contest.
