First Republican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda will tomorrow tour the 2-billion dollar Sentinel Mine which is under construction by First Quantum Minerals- FQM.

The mine is located 129 kilometers west of Solwezi in North Western Province.

Company Spokesperson, John Gladston says in a statement that it is a monumental visit by the First Republican President.

He says the visit is also an excellent opportunity for FQM to demonstrate that Sentinel Mine is contributing significantly and sustainably to the development of Zambia.

Mr. Gladstone says Dr Kauda has as much passion as FQM to see a better and more prosperous Zambia.

The Former President joins a host of dignitaries, including cabinet ministers, diplomats, clergy and foreign lawmakers who have toured Kalumbila.

Meanwhile, a wrangle has erupted over the ownership of Katoka Meme mine in Kasempa District in North Western province.

The dispute is between VEN Construction Mining Division of South Africa and Avarmma Mining Company of Russia.

The two are both claiming ownership of the mine, which is operating as Lions Resources whose directors are allegedly on the run after selling the mine to the two investors.

Director of Avarmma Mining Company Andrew Fateev says his company has acquired the explorations licence for Lions Resources Mines but was surprised that VEN Construction Mining Division is mining in the same area without licence.

However, Kasempa Royal Establishment Development Committee Chairperson Godfrey Koloko says the community took over the mine after failure by the former developer to develop it.

He says that the people of Kasempa want development and will not entertain any further delays.
