KITWE City Council submits names of councillors involved in illegal land sale

KITWE City Council (KCC) acting public relations manager Dorothy Sampa has said the council has heeded the 48-hour ultimatum issued to the local authority to release names of councillors and officers involved in illegal sale of land.

Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister Forrie Tembo last week issued a 48-hour ultimatum to KCC to release the names of councillors and officers involved in illegal land sale for appropriate action to be taken against the culprits.
Ms Sampa said in an interview yesterday that the council had obliged with the directive and had since compiled a confidential report bearing the names of councillors and officers in illegal sale of land.
“We did what the deputy minister directed us and we have already submitted the confidential report to him bearing the names of the councillors and officers involved in illegal land sale,” Ms Sampa said.
Ms Sampa expressed regret that more than 200 people applied and paid fees for the plots in Kitwe West’s Kamakonde area in 2010 but up to date, they had not been allocated the plots.
She attributed the delay in plot allocation to unscrupulous people who had been occupying the area for some time now.
Ms Sampa urged the illegal occupants of the Kamakonde area to go to the council and obtain forms for alternative land, which had been secured by the council.
“We have extended our amnesty to these people who are illegally occupying the area to come forth and get the form because the alternative area has been found for them,” Ms Sampa said.
