Govt cancels tender for Digital Terrestrial television broadcasting system

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Mwamba, has directed heads of the public media institutions to immediately depoliticize the newsrooms.

Speaking during a media briefing this morning, Mr. Mwamba notes that depoliticizing public media newsrooms will help the institutions to make the reportorial and editorial staff work as professionals.

Mr. Mwamba also explains that government has embarked on the modernization of public media institutions in line with the current media trends at global level, which includes among other interventions, establishing the public media’s presence on the social media platforms such as the internet for enhanced and widened public access to information.

Mr. Mwamba has also announced that former managing director at Zambia daily mail Isaac chipampe is now director for press and media development at the ministry of information and broadcasting services, with this movement, Anthony Mukwita is now acting managing director for Zambia daily mail.

Mr. Mwamba has also stated that the ministry has cancelled the tender which was floated on 7th September 2012 for the supply delivery and commissioning of the national digital terrestrial television broadcasting system.

The permanent secretary further adds that government is finalizing the draft access to information bill with intention of presenting the bill during the third session of national assembly.

He says the process will also involve the review and harmonization of the laws that impact on freedom of information such as protected places and areas, national archives act and the electronic communications and transactions act.
