Mbesuma heartbroken over dad’s death


Mbesuma said in an interview from his South African base yesterday that he was saddened with the death of his father, who in his prime time starred as a winger for both the national team and Green Buffaloes in the 1970s and 80s.
The Orlando Pirates player is expected in the country today to attend his father’s funeral.
Kajiya, 59, died at his Kanyama home.
The late former Buffaloes midfielder was recently honoured by the Zambia Army for his distinguished service.
Meanwhile, the former Zambia and Buffaloes great will be buried tomorrow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lusaka.
His sister, Kakunda Kajiya confirmed.
And ex-school boy international, Lewis Shambulo has expressed shock at the death of one of Zambia’s exciting left wingers and former fellow KK11 teammate, Kajiya, saying Zambia had lost a great footballer.
Shambulo said Kajiya was selected by the Zambia Army-sponsored Buffaloes from North-Western Province together with players like Chris Kakoma, and as a team, they made a huge impact on Zambia’s football.
Shambulo, who is also a FAZ life member and Zambia Football Coaches Association (ZAFCA) vice-president, said the coaching fraternity would also miss him as he was a courageous coach.
He said it was good to see that he had left a son who had emulated his greatness in form of Mbesuma.
