ALERT villagers in Serenje yesterday  effected a citizens’ arrest on a 40-year-old man who is alleged  to have axed to death his 66–year-old father last week  on  suspicion that  he was practising [practicing] witchcraft.
Peter Chibuye, who had gone into  hiding following the brutal killing of his father John Panga Chibuye last week, was apprehended by members of the public and later handed over to the police.
Central Province deputy Police chief Edwin Bwanga, who confirmed the development  yesterday, said  the nephew  of deceased identified  as  Ozwell Chibuye was  still  on  the run and a man hunt was still on.
Mr Bwanga commended the public for helping the police bring to book the suspect.
The two suspects are all residents of Fitebo Village in Chief Muchinda’s area in Serenje.
The duo followed the deceased to his home where they took turns in axing him and, in the process, he was left with deep cuts on his neck and a mutilated face.
“This is a gruesome killing but as police, we have launched a manhunt to find the other suspect,” Mr Bwanga said.
Meanwhile, investigations into the killing of a 23-year-old man believed to be a student at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) in Lusaka who was abducted by unknown people in an unregistered motor vehicle in Kabwe have continued.
The victim, identified as Rabison Machona was abducted on Monday night last week and bundled into the boot of a BMW car before it sped off.
Mr Bwanga said on the night of the incident, the Flying Squad responded to a distress call and gave chase but the search for the vehicle did not yield results.
The body of Rabison was found a few minutes away from the Great North Road in Liteta area and the body is in the Kabwe General Hospital mortuary.
