A 39-YEAR-OLD man of Samiyele village in Lundazi has allegedly bludgeoned his cousin to death on suspicion that he stole K90 from him.
The man reportedly used a pounding stick to hit his victim.
Eastern Province deputy commissioner of police Alfred Nawa said Joseph Kumwenda of Chief Mwase’s area allegedly murdered Moses Kumwenda, 38, after picking up a fight on Wednesday.
Mr Nawa told journalists in Chipata yesterday that Mr Kumwenda died after sustaining multiple body injuries and fractured legs.
“A fight ensued when Joseph accused Moses of stealing K90 from him. In the process, Joseph picked up a pounding stick and hit his cousin, who was left for dead. He suffered multiple body injuries, fractured legs and was bleeding from the ears,” he said.
Mr Nawa said the body is lying in the Lundazi district hospital awaiting post-mortem while the suspect is in police custody.
In another incident, police on Thursday picked up a body of a two-week-old baby who was found cut in half with the lower parts missing.
Mr Nawa said the baby’s identity is not known because the body was mutilated.
The body was found floating in shallow waters of a stream in Chief Mpezeni’s area.
He said no-one has been apprehended so far in connection with the murder and police have instituted investigations to bring the culprits to book.
And Police in Lusaka have instituted investigations into a case in which a 14-year-old girl is suspected to have been murdered after being defiled by unknown people.
Acting Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, who confirmed this, said the incident happened on July 31 at plot number 29, Sandula Road in Chilenje.
The body of the girl was found naked and it is believed she was defiled before being killed.
She went missing from home and was only discovered dead the following morning by members of the public.
