27 year old Luangwa Villager caged 16 years for defilment

Luangwa, July, 18, 2013, ZANIS  — Magistrate Mukumba Phiri of Chongwe District  has convicted a 27 year old man of Rufunsa District in Lusaka Province for defiling and impregnating a minor under the age of 16 years.

 

Magistrate Phiri convicted Nathan Hakagoro 27 years of Rufunsa District for having carnal knowledge with a girl below the age of 16.

 

The magistrate is in the area to finish up cases that he started before a Magistrate was sent to the area this week.

 

Particulars of the offence were that on a date unknown but between the month of May, 2012 and November, 2012 at Rufunsa willfully and unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16 contrary to section 138 sub section 1  as read with amendment No.12 of 2011 of the penal code chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

 

In the course of the act Hakagoro impregnated the minor and at the time of giving evidence the minor had a baby of three months.

 

Magistrate Phiri said it was sad that defilement cases had continued despite courts giving stiffer punishment to offenders and referred the case to the High Court for sentencing.
