Four in court for counterfeit old notes

Lundazi, July 15, 2013, ZANIS—Four  people have appeared in the Lundazi
Magistrate court charged for unlawful possession of
counterfeit notes.

 

The offence is contrary to section 358 of the penal code, chapter
87 of the laws of Zambia.


ZANIS in Lundazi reports that appearing before magistrate Keegani
Litiya were Martine Chamika aged 27, of  Kamuzenje village and Kambani Mungala,36 of Ngwilani village in chief Mwase’s area.

The other two accused persons are 30 year old farmer Mike Mwale of Chifiti village chief Mphamba and Jacobo Mtonga aged 22 ,

a businessman of the same village in Lundazi
district.


Facts before the court were that on July 2, 2013 officers from the Drug
Enforcement Commission – DEC during their routine patrols received
information that the four jointly and whilst acting together unlawfully had in their possession

of 49  by K50, 000 kwacha old notes amounting to K2, 450,000 knowing that it was counterfeit old bank notes.


Two of the accused persons pleaded guilty after revealing
that they got three million kwacha counterfeit notes from Jacobo Mtonga.

 

Meanwhile, the court recorded a plea of not guilty from Jacobo Mtonga and Mike
Mwale .
