Chadiza Medical Officer refutes media reports of diarrhea outbreak in the district

Chadiza, July 9, ZANIS………..Chadiza District Community Medical Officer Godfrey Lingenda has dispelled reports from some section of the media that there is an outbreak of diarrhea diseases in the district.

Last Sunday some local Radio station reported that four people of Oyela Village in Nsadzu area had died of diarrhea related diseases within a spread of few hours.

Dr Lingenda said according to a survey that was carried out in the area only one out of four deaths that occurred was associated with  diarrhea and vomiting adding that the rest were malaria related deaths.

He however, called on members of the community not to keep their sick relatives in their homes but take them to the hospital so that they can be taken care of by health workers.

He also advised people to seek early medical attention whenever they fell sick adding that medicine worked well with early diagnosis.

Dr Lingenda said that the team of experts that was sent to the area also observed that there was need for most people in villages to improve on sanitation and malaria control in order to safeguard themselves from possible diarrhea and malaria attacks.

He disclosed that his office has since organized meetings in the two affected communities to address water and sanitation especially on the need to have toilets at Jeke village; and on malaria prevention at Oyera village.

Dr Lingenda has since disclosed that the people of Oyera village will be given mosquito nets as an intervention in the cases of malaria.

He said the nets will be released from the reserve stocks that had been kept for such emergencies from the stocks that were acquired during the last Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) exercise.
