Zebras held by Sihlangu

Kitwe, July 8th, 2013, ZANIS  —–  BOTSWANA and Swaziland yesterday battled it to a goal less draw in the COSAFA 2013 group B first match played at a almost fully packed Arthur Davies stadium in Kitwe.

Both teams played the same fast game with long balls although Botswana had an upper hand enjoying ball possession and scoring chances but failed to be converted into goals.

On the other  hand, Swaziland which became more dangerous during the dying minutes of the game also had a few good clear chances of scoring but wasted all the chances through lack of proper coordination between strikers and the better defence put up by the Botswana Zebras.

And speaking after the march, Botswana couch Stanley Tshoshane said he was disappointed with the draw result.

Tshoshane said he was disappointed with the results,  as he expected his boys to win and advance to the next stage of the tournament.

The Zebra coach said the team will have to forget about the poor result and plan for the next match.

He however described the results as a true reflection of the overall match although he expected his team to score goals.

And Swaziland couch Valerie Billen said he was happy with his strikers although they failed to give him goals and promised to work on their striking force.

He said the draw result was fair considering the poor football back ground the team is coming from in the past 6years.

He also described the match handling by the officials as fair although he felt his goal keeper Nhlanhla Gwebu should have been awarded as the man of the match which went to a Botswana striker.

The draw result puts both teams on top of group B each with a point until after Kenya and Lesotho battle it out today at the same stadium to re-shape the group standings.

Both teams have never won the COSAFA Cup but Botswana reached the semi-finals in 2006 and will be looking for something better than that in this tournament.
