3 fill in nominations for Solwezi East constituency

Solwezi, June 28, ZANIS………..Three candidates have successfully filled in their nominations to contest in the forthcoming Solwezi East constituency parliamentary by-election.

Peter Illunga of the ruling Patriotic Front filled in first at 13:07 hours followed by Cephus Luwaile of United Nation Independent Party (UNIP) who filled in at 14:20 hours while Villie Lombanya of United Party for National Development (UPND) was last at 15:12 hours.

 Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) and Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) did not file their nominations despite earlier indicated to participate and by close of nominations no apology was forwarded to the electoral officials.

Speaking to journalists shortly after filling in his nomination, PF’s Ilunga expressed confidence that he will scoop the seat claiming that he has gained ground in Solwezi east constituency and therefore he is the only credible candidate who can win the seat.

Mr Illunga said he was thankful to the PF leadership for having confidence in him and urged voters in Solwezi East constituency to vote for him so that meaningful development can be attained in the area.

And PF Solwezi East constituency parliamentary by-election campaign Manager, Gabriel Namulambe said the party has confidence that Mr Ilunga will win the seat because other opposition political parties are not a factor as they have nothing to offer the people.

Mr Namulambe challenged other opposition political parties contesting the seat to use their manifestos to win the election if they have any.

Meanwhile, Northwestern PF Provincial Chairperson Fabian Chiposo said the party has no doubt that they will win the Solwezi east constituency parliamentary by-election because the political wind of change in the province is so great that PF is now gaining ground making them confident enough that they are going to scoop the seat.

And United Nation Independent Party (UNIP) candidate Cephus Luwaile also expressed confidence that he will win the election.

Mr Luwaile said once elected as Solwezi east Member of Parliament he will address many challenges the area is faced with such as the road network and unimproved general living standard of youths and women in the constituency.

And United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Villie Lombanya also expressed confidence that he will win the election considering his vast experience in social and economic endeavor

Mr Lombanya said people of Solwezi east constituency have for sometime been lacking a driver in terms of a person with proper mature and experienced leadership.

He said should he lose the elections, he will have no complaints because it is the people’s decision to select a representative they will want.  

Solwezi east constituency seat fell vacant following the resignation of former area Member of Parliament, Richard Taima who opted to join the ruling Patriotic Front.
