US $ 220, 000 to be spent on HIV/AIDS prevention in Northern Province

 

Kasama, June  20TH,  2013-ZANIS—  The Zambia Led Prevention Initiative ( ZPI ) says it will spend over US  $ 220 , 000 on the Community Driven HIV Prevention Project in Northern Province.

 

 

And Northern Province Permanent Secretary Hlobota Nkunika says government is committed to the fight against HIV/AIDS and other related health related problems.

 

 

 

Zambia Led Prevention Initiative Deputy Chief of Party Chileshe Chilangwa  says that  $150 thousand has been given to Kasama Christian Community Care (KCCC) to implement the project.

 

 

He said another  $75 thousand will be sub grantee to three organizations in Mbala, Mungwi and Kasama districts.

 

 

ZANIS reports that the  Chief of Party disclosed this at the launch of the programme at Wamulungwe Lodge in Kasama today.

 

 

Ms.Chilangwa noted that the programme is aimed at preventing the further spreading of HIV/AIDS in the Province.

 

 

She observed that the Prevalence rate for the country which has remained at 14% needs concerted efforts from all stakeholders.

 

 

And Northern Province Permanent Secretary Hlobota Nkunika says government is committed to the fight against HIV/AIDS and other related health related problems.

 

 

Mr. Nkunika said this in a speech read on his behalf by Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Royd Tembo

 

 

The Permanent Secretary said this was evidenced by numerous bilateral agreements signed to support the cause.

 

 

The PS further said the coming of ZPI through KCCC is a clear demonstration of the organization’s commitiment to promote local community ownership interventions.

 

 

He observed that abuse drugs and alcohol, economic vulnerability among Women, Youths and Men still pose a major challenge in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the Province.

 

 

The PS urged KCCC and sub grantees to be accountable and use the resources committed to their projects prudently.

 

 

Meanwhile KCCC Board Chairperson Pastor Isaiah Chalwe pledged the organization‘s commitment to implement the project to the expectation of ZPI and participating communities.

 

 

Pastor Chalwe thanked ZPI for partnering with KCCC in the implementation of HIV activities in order to maximize the US resources.

 

He also applauded the US government for its continued support in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Zambia.

 

 

The Programme is aimed at reducing of HIV transmission among women, youth and men aged 15-49 in the province.
