National Chess champion Gillian Bwalya will represent Zambia at the World Chess championship in Norway between August and September this year.

Lusaka Province Chess Association (LPCA) Zone 4 chairperson Bwalya Chileya has confirmed the development to ZANIS Sports in Lusaka today.

Chileya said Bwalya emerged champion in the national individual chess championships held at Henry Courtyard in Mansa and came out third in the Casablanca Chess festival held in South Africa last month to qualify to the Norway tournament.

In another development, Chileya has commended the Swedish Embassy in Lusaka for donating US$3,000 towards the travel arrangements of Gillian Bwalya to Norway.

He however said his association has a shortfall of US$2,000 to meet all the travel expenses for the Norway trip.

He has since called on the corporate world to come on board and assist the player.

And Chileya has disclosed that the Lusaka Province Chess Association will on 29th and 30th July 2013 host an open chess tournament at the Olympic Youth Development Center OYDC in Lusaka.

Chileya said the tournament is aimed at putting the chess players in good shape for future events and is open to both local and foreign chess players.
