Youths propose amendments to the National Youth Policy

Livingstone, June 19, ZANIS… Youths from Southern and Western
provinces have unanimously made several recommendations that should be
included in the National Youth Policy which is under review.

 

 

Some of the recommendations included the need for the government to
come up with a deliberate policy which favours easy access to land,
ownership and acquisition of agriculture inputs to enable youths
participate in agriculture developmental activities.

 

The youths also recommended the need for government through the
ministry of commerce, Trade and Industry should create a conducive
environment where youth  participation in industry is encouraged and
promoted through a clear work plan that encourage decentralization and
wealth creation among youths.

 

Other recommendations included the need for the government to ensure
that there was majority youth representation in all economic and
empowerment board committee responsible for youth development and
empowerment programs.

 

 

It was also resolved that  government  establishes  the national and provincial
schemes and apprenticeships to enable youths to acquire employable
skills to meet the labour market.

 

They also urged government to establish  students loan schemes
that they said should be extended to all students of higher learning in the country.

 

ZANIS reports that this was resolved  at the close of Western and Southern
Provinces regional youth consultative meeting held at Fairmount Hotel
Yesterday

 

Mr. Prince Mayamba , who read out the resolutions at the end of the meeting  said the national youth policy has accorded youths the chance to make resounding resolutions in order to enhance their participation in national development.

 

Mr.  Mayamba. He thanked the government for organizing the consultative forum for
the review of the 2006 national youth policy.

 

The youths also pledged to support the reviewing process of National
Youth Policy in order to empower youths in all facets of society.
