Mpika accident claims two

—Two people of Mpika District in Muchinga Province died on the spot last night after a vehicle they were travelling in lost control and over-turned several times.


Muchinga Province Police Commissioner, Remmy Kajoba, confirmed the accident in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today.


Mr Kajoba said the accident, involving an MV Toyota Noah, registration number ACT 4593, occurred around 23:00 hours at Kalonje on the Great North Road.


Mr Kajoba identified the deceased as Zebron Mwila, 17, of TAZAMA Compound who was driving the vehicle with his passenger, Humphrey Lombe, 23, of the same address.


The duo was driving from TAZAMA to Mununga Quarry in Mpika when the accident happened.


The police chief added that circumstances which led to the accident have not yet been established, adding that the body of Zebron was found 25 metres away from the vehicle with multiple injuries on the head while that of Humphery was found lying next to the vehicle.


Mr Kajoba said the vehicle has been extensively damaged.


Both bodies are lying at Chilonga Mission Hospital awaiting a post-mortem and burial.
