Shamenda hails Zambian mission

Geneva/Switzerland, June 15, ZANIS —- Labour and Social Security Minister Fackson Shamenda has described the Zambian Mission in Switzerland as one the most important Zambian Missions in the world.

He says the mission is based in a country which is home to numerous international organizations such as United Nations agencies and the Red Cross among others.

Speaking at the Zambian Mission in Geneva yesterday, Mr Shamenda said Geneva’s financial and worldwide diplomatic status required the Zambian mission to have adequate staffing.

Mr Shamenda said this would enable the Zambian mission to effectively carry out its mission obligations.

The Labour minister also stressed on the importance of the ongoing International Labour Conference.

He said issues of employment being discussed at the conference were of vital importance because employment issues border on development and poverty alleviation.

And Zambia’s Ambassador to Switzerland Encyla Sinjela said she was honoured to have the Zambian delegation visit Geneva.

Ms Sinjela said Zambians were always welcome to Geneva as it gave the mission an opportunity to know what was going on in Zambia.
