——Government says Livingstone is growing at a tremendous pace resulting in the town to be among world’s tourist destinations.

Livingstone District Commissioner Omar Musenje said this in a speech read on his behalf by District Community Development Officer Steven Chikate at the official opening of the Zambia Bata shoe company PLC – remodelled retail shop in Livingstone today.

Mr Musenjealso said Bata Zambia shoe company PLC, is one of the few companies that has consistently continued to supply improved footwear even after the liberalization of the economy, and this is an admirable achievement.

Mr Musenje noted that BATA has made a wise decision to ensure that the image of the company is enhanced through a shop that meets world standards.

He said government is making a commitment to offer the necessary co-operation and maximum support to ensure that the company prospers in its endeavours.

And BATA Zambia Managing Director Prosper Bachi said the company had heeded to the call by government to prepare the tourist capital to the best standards that are of world class and in readiness for the coming UNWTO conference in August this year.

Mr Bachi said there is no store in this region which can be compared with the flagship model of the new retail shop.

“All customers who are here today will be given a special treat of 25% discount on all merchandise and we hope everyone will take advantage of this as this is only for one day’’, he said.

Mr Bachi added that it is hoped that the UNWTO delegates and tourists of the city will pleasantly see the store and realize it is the same as those in the developed world.
