Some pupils at Tafela Ziko Basic School in Vubwi district are learning under trees due to inadequate classrooms.

Tafela Ziko Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairperson Bizwell Mbewe disclosed that the school lacks inadequate classrooms, a situation that has led to many pupils to have lessons under trees.

This came to light when Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Panji Kaunda visited Vubwi district recently.

Mr. Mbewe explained that the school has a total of 670 pupils against five classrooms which are cannot accommodate all of them.

He said this prompted the school to move some grades out of classrooms to learning under trees.

Mr. Mbewe said the situation has negatively affected the performance of pupils at the school because their learning was affected during the rain season.

He appealed to government to construct more classrooms at the school in order to create a conducive learning environment for all pupils.

And Vubwi District Commissioner Velenasi Banda said government will soon construct more classroom blocks at the school.

Ms. Banda also revealed that plans were underway to construct more schools in the area in a bid to reduce illiteracy levels.
