Corporal punishment shakes a school in Ndola

Ndola, June 11, ZANIS – A 17-year-old Grade nine pupil of Twatasha basic school in Ndola’s Pamodzi township today collapsed after she was beaten by her teacher for reporting late for school.

A check at the school by ZANIS found irate Pamodzi residents throwing stones at the school in protest and the teacher only identified as a Mr Kangwa was hidden in fear of being beaten by the residents.

Pupils who narrated the story to the media (who rushed to the scene) said their teacher (a Mr. Kangwa) was fond of beating pupils.

“Two girls one from grade eight and the other a grade nine came late for school. So Mr Kangwa called them and asked them why they came late, before they could respond, Mr Kangwa got a horse-pipe and started beating them like he was beating his own children, he whipped the grade nine girl until she collapsed and fainted,” narrated the pupils.

The pupils said the 17-year-old girl was quickly rushed to a nearby clinic where she regained consciousness.
