Govt. calls for prudent use of its resources

— Government  has called for accountability and prudent utilization of all financial resources if government is to improve the health delivery in the country.

 

And Central Statistical Office (CSO) Director John Kalumbi has warned that failure to address the funding gap may derail the 2013 Zambia Demographic Health Survey (ZDHS).

 

Meanwhile, United States Government has commended Zambia for successfully implementing HIV/Aids interventions aimed at putting new patients on Antiretroviral Treatment (ART).

 

Health Permanent Secretary Peter Mwaba says there is need for all officers in his ministry to prudently utilize all financial resources in order to reduce the suffering of Zambians.

 

ZANIS reports that Dr. Mwaba said at the official opening of the 2013 Zambia Demographic Health Survey (ZDHS) main training for enumerators in Lusaka today.

 

Dr. Mwaba has explained that Demographic Health Survey will be key in implementing the Ministry’s five year strategic plan and progress in measuring on how the country has gone in attaining Millennium Democratic Goals (MDGs) by 2015.

 

Earlier, Central Statistical Office (CSO) Director John Kalumbi has warned that failure to address the funding gap may derail the 2013 Zambia Demographic Health Survey (ZDHS).

 

Mr. Kalumbi noted that failure to mobilise enough financial resources will affect fieldwork and data processing of the exercise.

 

He stated that DHS is cardinal to both policy makers and other users in making informed decisions.

 

At the same meeting, United States Government Representative, Fatma Soud commended Zambia for successfully implementing HIV/Aids interventions aimed at putting new patients on Antiretroviral Treatment (ART).

 

Ms. Soud said Zambia has already reached the point in its HIV epidemic where the yearly increase in new patients on ART exceeds the number of new HIV infections.

 

She noted that this is a tremendous achievement in that over 455, 000 Zambians are accessing ART, more than 85 per cent of those who need it.
