Another nine lives lost in Kavalamanja road horror

 Nine people died on the spot while 17 others sustained injuries in a Fatal Road Traffic Accident between Kavalamanja and Feira, about 9 KM from the Great East Road in Luangwa, yesterday.

The nine comprise of five females and four males including the driver of the vehicle while those injured are 12 females, 3 males and two juveniles.

 

Police Deputy Spokesperson Charity Mubanga- Chanda confirmed the development in a statement , today.

 

Mrs. Chanda said the accident occurred on 2nd June, 2013 around 18:00.

 

Involved was a motor vehicle Toyota Dyna registration number ALJ 9169 whose passengers are believed to have been coming from a UPND rally in Kavalamanja area.

 

Preliminary investigations have indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle, missing the bridge in the process and ended up in a dry stream.

 

The injured are admitted to Katondo Mission Hospital while the bodies of the deceased are lying in Luangwa district hospital mortuary.

 

And in another development, Mrs. Chanda said a body of a male person aged between 25 and 30 years was found in Chilangas’ Shantumbu mountains on 2nd June 2012 around 10:00 hours by residents of the area.

 

The deceased who is suspected to have been murdered was found tired with an electric wire with his head crushed and covered with stones.

 

The body of the deceased is lying in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.

“ We are appealing to members of the public who are missing a male relative to report to the nearest police or UTH police post, “ she said.
