Youths in Chienge district have called on government to consider empowering them with funds to enable them start small scale businesses.

Bright Chansa of Kapampala Village in Senior Chief Mununga’s area complained that Youths in the area are just roaming the streets after finishing Grade 12 because of lack of jobs and financial resources to venture into business opportunities.

Mr Chansa said this during a meeting held at the Village by Chienge Constituency area Member of Parliament (MP), Benson Kapaya who is in the area to explain the removal of subsidies by government.

However, Mr Chansa paid tribute to government for the various developmental projects being under taken in the area.

And responding to the call General Kapaya, who is also Luapula province minister said government attaches great importance to the welfare of the Youths in the country, adding that Luapula province is not an exception.

He said there is however need for Youths to organise themselves by forming and registering co-operatives to enable them access funds such as the Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF).

Meanwhile, residents of Kalungwishi Ward in Chienge district have complained of lack of clean drinking water in the area.

One of the residents in the Ward, Richard Musonda said all the 17 boreholes located in the area are clogged with rust, adding that the situation makes water from the boreholes unsafe for human consumption.

He lamented that the clogging in some areas is so severe such that water does not come from the borehole.

And area Member of Parliament, Benson Kapaya assured his people that he will personally report the problem to relevant authorities.
