Chipata water expansion project completed
Chiapata, May 31, ZANIS ——Chipata district has successfully completed a water extension programme in newly developed areas.
Chipata District Administrative officer Masuso Banda disclosed the development during the Provincial Development Coordination Committee meeting in Chipata yesterday, saying a distance of 1.672 kilometers of water extension has been done at the fair face housing project while another extension of 1.1 kilometers has been done in East Rise area.
Mr Banda said this is under phase one of the water extension project in the district.
Water supply in newly allocated plots in the district is erratic and residents have recently complained about poor access to safe and clean water in their areas.
Mr Banda however stated that areas that are not serviced will be connected in the second phase of the project.
And Mr Banda said 10,000 seedlings of Eucalyptus have been planted in various parts of the district since January, 2013.
He said this is in an effort to reduce the effects of climate change which have already started manifesting with the poor rainfall pattern.
President Michael Sata recently launched the tree planting exercise of which 25 million seedlings are scheduled to be planted countrywide.
