The government in Lundazi district has expressed disappointment with the failure by ZESCO to inform the authorities about the launch of  the prepaid meter system in the area.

Lundazi district administrative officer Mukule Banda complained to ZANIS in Lundazi that it was unfortunate that the majority of ZESCO customers in the district were ignorant about the launch of the prepaid meter system.

Mr Banda explained that most of the customers were inquiring about the program from the office of the district commissioner which equally did not have information about the exercise.

He said as a matter of courtesy ZESCO should have informed the district commissioner  Janet Mvula about the program so that a sensitisation campaign could have been undertaken to educate the people  before  announce their presence  and installation of prepaid meters.

He explained that what ZESCO did was just to start installing prepaid meters in high density areas without conducting  a sensitization exercise or civic education to the electricity consumers forcing them to seek clarification on how to use the new gadget.

But when contacted for a comment Lundazi district ZESCO  office told ZANIS that  the electricity company ran an advert on the local community radio station a week ago to inform the customers about the installation exercise.
