DEC arrests 27 for trafficking in cannabis

The Drug Enforcement Commissioner (DEC) has arrested a 29 year old business man of Nakonde district for trafficking in heroin.

Steven Simwanza of Katozi village was arrested for trafficking in 112 sachets of heroin which was concealed in transparent plastics.

DEC Public Relations Officer Samuel Silomba disclosed in a statement to ZANIS today that Simwanza was also arrested and charged for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 5.6 kilogrammes.

Mr. Silomba also said in Chipata district of Eastern province, the Commission has arrested 39 year old Mwaseba Namsa Kassim, a Tanzanian national for trafficking in 56 tablets of Lorazepam.

And in a related incident, DEC has arrested and jointly charged Joseph Mulaliki, a 43 year old businessman, Joseph Mukendeni, 30, of Kyawama compound and a 26 year old saleslady, Loveness Mukuma, all of Solwezi district for trafficking in 662 tablets of Phenobarbitone and 200 capsules of diazepam.

He said the commission has in the last four days arrested 27 people countrywide for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.
