Lack of qualified staff annoys PS

Solwezi, May 28, ZANIS ——– North-Western province Permanent Secretary, Augustine Seyuba was this morning incensed when he found unqualified junior members of staff at the provincial labour office in Solwezi handling labour matters.

A visibly annoyed Permanent Secretary said he is not going to tolerate unauthorized and unqualified people to be addressing serious labour matters which should be ably handled by competent qualified senior labour officers.

Mr Seyuba said this when he conducted an impromptu tour of government departments housed at National Pension Scheme Authority building  and found an office orderly and a typist at labour office in a labour dispute meeting with W J Engineering Directors.

Mr Seyuba has since appealed to the Labour Commissioner to quickly send a qualified Senior Labour officer to the station to be handling labour matters so that such serious labour matters are not addressed by unqualified junior members of staff.

He said with the amount of huge developments going on in Solwezi, the labour office cannot be manned without a senior and qualified labour officer.

Early this month, the labour department lost the senior labour officer who died in a road accident less than nine months from his transfer from Kasama to Solwezi on promotion last year.
