D769 road works in Itezhitezhi District nears completion

Itezhi tezhi May 28,2013,ZANIS — government says the bids for the upgrading of the D769 road which links Itezhi Tezhi district to Mongu road junction to bituminous standards are expected to be concluded in few weeks’ time to allow   for the commencement of works on the 115 kilometre road.

 

 

Deputy Minister of agriculture and livestock Greyford Monde who is also Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament disclosed during a live phone-in programme on Itezhi Tezhi FM radio that more than 40 companies had submitted their bids for the upgrading of the road.

 

 

The construction of Itezhi Tezhi d769 road is a package of transport solutions under the link Zambia 8000 embarked by the PF administration to improve road network and address challenges associated with the accessibility of different parts of the country.

 

 

“The process of upgrading the D769 road is now in the tendering process. We want by June/July to have the contractor move on site” Mr. Monde said.

 

 

Mr. Monde said that he was happy that the Pf Government had listened to the cries of the people of Itezhi Tezhi to have the road upgraded to bituminous standards after years of travelling on deplorable road.

 

 

“We should be happy and appreciate that President Sata took a decision to bring forward the construction of the road from 2014 to this year due to the cries of the people of this area.” Mr. Monde said.

 

 

The Itezhi Tezhi legislator who is among the UPND MPs appointed as deputy ministers said that the project will greatly improve accessibility and mobility among the people of Itezhi Tezhi and other district’s districts economic centres.

 

 

 Mr. Monde observed that the link Zambia project centres is also aimed at supporting government’s policy of decentralization and creation of jobs for youths.

“About 40 companies expressed submitted their bids for the construction of the D769 road.

 

 

Mr. Monde reiterated that that the PF government had made a promise to develop Zambia and that Itezhi Tezhi district was no exception.

 

 

Meanwhile Mr Monde who enjoyed praises from the callers said government is committed to delivering  farm inputs for the 2014/14 farming season by june and july this year. 

He said this was aimed at providing adequate time for farmers   to prepare adequately for their farming activities.

 

 

Mr. Monde also said that there was no by-election in Itezhi Tezhi at the moment because the relevant authorities have not yet declared so.

He said that people will be informed when the seat is vacant.
