A POLICE officer in Kapiri Mposhi has told the Kapiri Mposhi Magistrate’s Court how a man allegedly defiled a six-year-old girl.
Chief inspector Rayford Hamiyanze was testifying before magistrate Brenda Chiganda in the trial of Clement Mweetwa who is alleged to have defiled a girl of Railways compound in Kapiri Mposhi.
Mr Hamiyanze who works in the victim support unit, told the court that he started investigating Mweetwa for alleged defilement on November 22, 2012 when the victim’s mother reported the matter to Kapiri Mposhi police station.
Mr Hamiyanze said on December 7, 2012 the girl’s father took Mweetwa to the police station and the following day when he was interviewed, he denied the allegations.
“On 8 December, he told me that he did not have any sexual contact with the girl but only had a discussion with her mother who wanted to buy a basket from him,” Mr Hamiyanze said.
The police officer testified that when the girl was interviewed, she told the police that Mweetwa allegedly defiled her in a disused shop.
Mr Hamiyanze said when the girl was allegedly defiled, her mother was not home.
He also said the girl told the police that Mweetwa warned her that if she told anyone what had happened to her, he would kill her.
Mr Hamiyanze said the girl’s mother only discovered that someone had sex with her daughter when she was bathing her.
He also said during the interview at the police station, Mweetwa, denied defiling the girl.
