NKANA’s early form will be put to the test again today when they visit Nchanga Rangers in Chingola during the MTN Week Nine skirmishes.

Last weekend, Nkana’s contention for the 2013 league title got a valuable boost when they beat defending champions Zanaco 2-1 in Kitwe to open a four-point lead.

This afternoon at Nchanga Stadium, they should expect some strong resistance despite third placed Rangers’ dramatic capitulation at the hands of troubled Lime Hotspurs who rallied from a 1-nil down to win 3-1 in the last five minutes of their Week Eight game in Ndola’s Trade Fair Grounds.

Moreover, Nkana have failed to pick up a win over Rangers since returning to the top-flight since 2010 in which period the Chingola side has won one, while the remaining games have finished in draws.

Rangers coach Fighton Simukonda said he would not take his former club lightly despite Rangers’ good run over the record 11-time league champions.

“Last week’s loss is under the bridge. That is football,” Simukonda said.

Defeat or a draw for Nkana at Nchanga would still keep them at the top irrespective of the results from other games below them in the top six.

Nkana are on 19 points, four more than Zesco United.

In other fixtures: Zesco host Kalulushi Modern Stars at the Trade Fair Grounds, while Kabwe Warriors await Lime in Kabwe.

At Konkola Stadium in Chilabombwe, Konkola Blades host Green Buffaloes with the latter seeking their first points after two successive defeats.

In Lusaka, Zanaco visit Napsa Stars at Woodlands Stadium, while Red Arrows host a resurgent Roan United at Nkoloma Stadium.

Nkwazi entertain Konkola Mine Police at their Edwin Imboela home ground in Lusaka.

And at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe, beleaguered coach Beston Chambeshi would be fighting for his dear life on the Power Dynamos bench when the 2011 champions host bottom placed Forest Rangers.

Defeat against Forest could end Chambeshi’s reign at Power although speculation is that this could be his final match in charge of Power.
