Chipata man held to help police with investigations

Chipata, May 13, ZANIS —— Police in Chipata are holding a man of Munga compound to help with investigations in connection with the murder of a man who was found dead in the same compound.


Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Grace Chipalila told ZANIS in an interview that the body of the deceased aged between 30 and 34 was found lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on the throat and eyebrow.


“We have picked up Lameck Zulu of the same compound to help with investigations,” she said.


Mrs Chipalila disclosed that a knife and a bottle alleged to have been used in the murder were found next to the corpse.


The incident occurred yesterday and the body is lying in Chipata General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.


 And Mrs Chipalila also disclosed that one person died yesterday after he was hit by a motor vehicle on the Chipata/Mfuwe road.


She said the accident which involved a Toyota Landcruiser registration number ABY 5942 occurred near Mabvuto farm in Chief Chikuwe’s area around 19:30
hours.


She named the deceased as Samuel Phiri 40, a padestrian who was trying to cross the road when he met his fate, and stated that the body is lying in Chipata General Hospital.


She said the driver of the vehicle, Wilson Machilole 43 who escaped unhurt has been held in police custody for causing death by dangerous driving.
