Chief Simaamba pledges to support PF government

Siavonga, May 12, ZANIS ——- Chief Simaamba of the Tonga people in Siavonga district says he support President Micheal Sata and his government’s polices so as to foster both social and economic development in the area.

The traditional leader said it was vital for him to support the government of the day so that development could be enhanced.

He lamented that the district has lagged behind in terms of development and hence the need for the people to support government in its programmes and polices.

Chief Simaamba who declared to support PF government’s development agenda was speaking yesterday at the first ever district Indaba which was held at the council chamber in Siavonga.

The traditional leader said although he is non-partisan in politics, he will always work with the government to help develop his chiefdom.

Meanwhile the chief expressed happiness to see all the political parties in the district attended the indaba.

"I am happy that all political parties are here attending this very important meeting. I would like to urge you that, this is not the time for politics but time for development. I should also say that all political parties in the district are my sons whether PF, UPND, MMD among others and if you want to visit me, you are all well come," he said.

And speaking earlier, the PF District Chairperson Ephraim Mwanjawanthu called on government to promote irrigation system in the district in order to improve on the food output, reduce hunger and generate employment among the youths in the area.

Mr Mwanjawanthu also appealed to government to consider opening the police posts at Chaanga and Sianyolo villages to curb gender violence and child abuse in the areas.

The indaba was called for to discuss on the way forward to develop Siavonga district.
