Namwala man jailed for government trophy

Namwala, May 10, ZANIS ——- A man of Chief Shenzongo’s area in Itezhi tezhi district was  yesterday sentenced to five (5) years imprisonment with hard labour by Namwala Magistrate Muzambalika Simwatachela for being in possession of ivory without a certificate of ownership.

Facts of the case are that Kennedy Moyo aged 37 years approached a man of known identity to help him find market for his ivory.

It was at this point that the said man reported the matter to Namwala Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) that a man had approached him to find market for ivory.

Moyo was arrested at Mbila plains by ZAWA Namwala after he was tricked that market for ivory was found and that he (Moyo) should be at Mbila plains were the buyer would meet him but to his surprise ZAWA Namwala officers appeared on the scene with a land cruiser for the OP Namwala and arrested Moyo.

Moyo was found with 10.5kgs of ivory on the 5th of May at Mbila plains between Namwala and Itezhi tezhi district of Central province.
