Chipata residents celebrates Mangani’s petition victory

Chipata, May 10, ZANIS ——- Scores of PF cadres and some Chipata residents today welcomed former Chipata Central Member of Parliament Lameck Managani in grand style causing traffic jams and bringing business in the central business district to a standstill.

The PF officials and some residents who waited for Mangani for more than four hours at Chipata welcome went wild singing, honking and ululating when he arrived.

The jubilant Mangani was led in a procession from Chipata welcome via down shops through to the central business district up to his house.

The cadres and some residents were celebrating the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the High Court judgement to nullify MMD’s Rueben Mtolo Phiri’s election for breaching the electoral Act during the September 2011 tripartite elections.

And Mangani said the procession was nothing special adding that people of Chipata were merely celebrating the winning of petition which robbed the PF the seat.

The losing PF candidate in the 2011 elections said the PF in the area should avoid in-fighting and squabbles for them to grab the seat in the impending by- elections.

He said he will apply to re-contest the seat on PF ticket as the concept of the sole candidate does not arise in the PF.

He dispelled rumours that the Indian community in Chipata has donated some money to the PF secretariat so that Hanif Badat can be a preferred candidate for the forthcoming elections.

Phiri had appealed to the Supreme Court against High Court Judge Evans Hamaundu’s decision to nullify his election after the judge found that he was not duly elected because of electoral malpractice.
