The Zambia Media Women Association (ZAMWA) has expressed disappointment at the absence of some media heads at this year’s commemoration of the world press freedom day last Friday.

During the commemoration, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga also expressed disappointment at the dismal participation of heads of media institutions in this year’s world press freedom day.

ZAMWA Chairperson Felistus Chipako told ZANIS in Lusaka today that all heads of media organisations should have been present at the event because so many issues that concern them were discussed.

Ms. Chipako has since urged heads of media institutions that did not attend this year’s press freedom day commemoration to do so next year because it was during such an event when cardinal issues such as media ethics were discussed.

She said more media personnel in the country should be turning up in large numbers to celebrate this day because it was special for them.

She further said the commemoration of press freedom day was very special to all media institutions not only in Zambia but the world over.

Ms. Chipako however described this year’s press freedom day commemorations in Lusaka as very interesting because it was a day when the media fraternity donated a house to a vulnerable family in Kamanga compound.
