—The Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) in Northern Province has challenged civil society organizations to act independently for the benefit of the people of Zambia.

AVAP Northern and Muchinga Provinces Information officer, Christopher Chikwanda, said this in press statement to ZANIS in Kasama.

Mr Chikwanda noted that there is need for organizations such as trade union and Human Rights advocates to be firm on promoting human rights.

He added that this will help them in protecting the rights of workers through improved conditions of service of both formal and informal sectors.

Mr Chikwanda observed that most private companies are misusing their domestic workers despite Government efforts to fight the trend.

He has since encouraged all workers to take advantage of the labour offices to sort out problems.

The AVAP Information Officer said this is the only way workers will be able to sort out their labour difficulties and work together for the development of the nation.
