JTI launches ARISE program to reduce child labour

JAPAN Tobacco International Zambia has launched ARISE an education program to help reduce child labor in agriculture.

The program that will be implemented in Kaoma district of western province was first developed in Malawi and Brazil through a partnership with winrock international an agency specializing in agricultural development and the international labor organization.

Speaking during the launch in Lusaka on Monday Malawan winrock program director Dalitso Boloyi expressed his gratitude with how JTI has integrated sustainable efforts to reduce  child labor in the tobacco sector.

The launch was attended by various high profile figures including royal highnesses from Kaoma district, Japan ambassador to Zambia, deputy ministers from various ministries.

Meanwhile Education deputy minister David Mabumba challenged private sectors to emulate the efforts of JTI and maintain high levels of ethics in all their businesses especially when it involves the vulnerable groups of society like children and women.

And Kaoma District commissioner Manjolo said he was happy the program was being taken to his district where most children are out of school because they want to help their parents to work in farms.
