Water Resources Management Authority board unveiled

Mines, Energy and Water Development Minister Yamfya Mukanga has unveiled a board of the newly instituted Water Resources Management Authority that will regulate water resources throughout the country.

Mr. Mukanga said water resources were important in the development of the country hence it was important to ensure that these resources were well managed and developed.

He said at a media briefing in Lusaka today that it was for this reason that the Patriotic Front government, through his ministry, has come up with a board composed of eminent persons in the country to oversee the regulation of water resources.

Mr. Mukanga said the PF government was in a hurry to develop the country in order to uplift the living standards of all citizens.

He said the newly appointed board will assist government in ensuring that water resources benefit the people of Zambia especially the poor and vulnerable in accordance to the government’s pro-poor policies and manifesto.

He has since urged the newly appointed board members to apply their skills and abilities to effectively manage the new institution.

He also thanked all the cooperating partners that have supported the sector and urged them to continue so that government can achieve the objectives it has set for the water sector and in uplifting the living standards of the people.

Members of the board include Bishop Edward Chomba, who is the Chairman and will be deputised by Mr. Mpankata Musonda.

Other board members are Chief Imanga Imwiko, Ms. Queen Kakoma, Mr. Adam Hussen, Mr. Joseph Sakala, Mr. Barnaby Mulenga, Dr. Chileshe Mulenga, Mr. David Shamulenge, Mr. Dutch Gibson, Mr. Joe Simachela, Mr. Greenwell Mukwayi and Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water Development Permanent Secretary George Zulu.

  1. its one step rightly and timely taken. we need to live with the future in mind as we use this finite resource. without sustainable use of our water resources, its disastrous on the present and future generations. the environment can evolve, but can man evolve?

  2. Am so excited to here that the board has been finally been constituted. We will support the idea of monitoring and managing the water resources in Zambia. Question; When is the board going to employ provincial and District staff in managing the goals. We are have the qualification to work with you Thank you
