PF government working to reduce intergenerational poverty

Mpika Central Member of Parliament Mwansa Kapeya has reaffirmed government‘s commitment to improving the welfare of youths in the country through the creation of sustainable youth empowerment programmes.

Mr. Kapeya said the Patriotic Front (PF) government was working tirelessly to reduce inter-generational poverty by promoting lifelong learning, vocational trainings and multi skilling programmes for young people in the country.

He said government regards youth empowerment as one of the primary avenues to fostering development to all parts of the country.

He was speaking in Mpika yesterday when he handed over Chilonga Youth Resource Center to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Mr. Kapeya further urged young people to take up life sustaining skills from the youth resource center in order to prepare them to cope with the demands of the ever changing world.

And Ministry of Youth and Sport Director Collins Mulonda said his ministry has a deliberate policy framework intended to empower young people through the provision of skills training.

Mr. Mulonda has since urged young people to take advantage of the resource center and acquire skills training.

He said his ministry has interventional programmes that provide a startup capital for youths upon successful completion of their skills training.

He further said his ministry will expand the Chilonga Youth Resource Center by creating boarding facilities to carter for youths from distant places but within the district.

Meanwhile, a youth representative Kennedy Chileshe thanked government for completing the center whose construction begun in 2002.

Mr. Chileshe said youths can be a very resourceful assert when adequately equipped with a good learning environment.
