Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister John Kufuna is concerned that the Luapula Water and Sewerage Company has not undertaken a survey for water supply in Lunga district.

Mr.Kufuna said access to clean and safe drinking water coupled with good sanitation was a right for every Zambian regardless of where they reside in the country including those in Lunga district in the Bangweulu wetlands.

The deputy Minister said LWASCO as a regional water and sanitation service provider should know better about its mandate to ensure that water reticulation facilities are availed to communities within their catchment area in Luapula Province.

Mr Kufuna was speaking in interview with ZANIS in Samfya today.

He advised Lunga district commissioner Rapheal Kauseni and council secretary Oswell Mpofu to be proactive if the new area is to be developed.

This was after Lunga District commissioner Rapheal Kauseni complained about the delays in the tendering process and also the approval of commencement for construction of various infrastructural projects.

Meanwhile,  Mr. Kufuna said that his ministry plans to build 100 council houses per district , improve road networks and see that people have access to electricity through government initiatives.

He said the government is on course to foster development in remote through decentralization and enhanced livelihood resulting from developmental initiatives.
