President Sata advises Kapiri voters

Kapiri Mposhi, April 13, ZANIS –—- President Michael Sata has urged electorates in Kapiri Mposhi not to make a mistake again by voting for UPND candidate Lawrence Zimba in the 23rd April Kapiri Mposhi Constituency by-elections.

And MMD Kapiri Mposhi Constituency Chairman Kabwe Mwamba along with over 400 MMD and UPND members have ditched the former ruling party to join the PF.

Mr. Sata said the people of Kapiri Mposhi should vote for PF candidate Eddie Musonda because UPND candidate Lawrence Zimba failed to bring any development to the area when he served as MP before his election was nullified by the Supreme Court.

Addressing a campaign rally to drum-up support for Mr Musonda at Kapiri Mposhi Town Center ground today, President Sata assured the people of Kapiri Mposhi of development if they vote for the PF candidate in the fourth coming elections.

Meanwhile, MMD Kapiri Mposhi constituency Chairman Kabwe Mwamba along with over 400 MMD and UPND members have ditched the former ruling party to join the PF.

Mr. Mwamba who is also former Kapiri Mposhi District Council Chairman defected from the MMD at a rally addressed by President Michael Sata at Kapiri Mposhi Town Center ground today.

Others who defected with Mr Kabwe include MMD District Youth Chairman Richard N’gona, former MMD Chang’ondo Ward Councillor, Elizabeth Nachinsambwe and UPND member Margaret Poya.

Mr. Mwamba cited failure by the MMD to field a candidate in the fourth coming Kapiri Mposhi by-election as a reason for his defection.

The former councillor said the MMD has degraded itself by associating itself with the UPND which he described as a small political party.

“It is a shame that our party which was in power for 20 years has sunk so low to even fail to pick a candidate for these by-elections instead it has chosen to associate itself with the UPND which is a small party,” Mr Mwamba said.

He also charged that the former ruling party has lost grip and has no future in Zambian politics.

And MMD District Youth Chairman Richard N’gona had resigned because of lack of “serious” leadership and direction in the former ruling party.

Mr N’gona stated that the current crop of MMD leadership at national level does not have the qualities and commitment to enable the party bounce back to power.

“The MMD is doomed this is not the party that the general membership and the people of Zambia were proud of some years ago… it has died because of lack of serious leaders to propel it back to glory,” Mr N’gona said.

The Kapiri Mposhi constituency by-election was necessitated by the Supreme Court nullification of the election of Lawrence Zimba (MMD) as area Member of Parliament following a successful appeal by PF losing candidate, Eddie Musonda.

Mr Zimba has since been adopted by the opposition UPND to re-contest the seat while UNIP has fielded Francis Mwape.

President Michael Sata was in Kapiri Mposhi district today where he addressed three public rallies to drum-up support for ruling PF candidate Eddie Musonda in the 23rd April Kapiri Mposhi constituency by-elections.
