———-Workers at the Bangweulu Water Transport Board in Samfya District and the Mweru Water Transport Board in Nchelenge District are owed KR1.8 million in salaries arrears .

This came to light when Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Permanent Secretary, Muyenga Atanga met workers at Mweru Water Transport Board in Nchelenge yesterday.

And Dr. Atanga has said government is working around the clock to ensure that the arrears are settled.

He said the Ministry is currently working on modalities of verifying the claim by the workers to ensure that no ghost workers are included on the list of beneficiaries.

Dr. Atanga called on the workers to be patient as government looks into their predicament, adding that there is need for them to continue working hard.

Meanwhile, Workers at the Mweru Water Transport Board in Nchelenge have called on government to look into their poor conditions of service.

One of the Workers, Mirriam Musonda said employees  at the institution get between KR500 and KR600 despite the high cost of living in the District.

But Dr. Atanga assured the workers that their plight will be looked into as soon as possible saying there is need to first establish why the workers are not on government pay roll.

He said once the reason is ascertained government will work on the findings and ensure that corrective measures are taken.

In another dvelopment, Dr. Atanga has expressed surprise that the Zambia Postal Services in Nchelenge District is operating from a goods container.

He said there is an urgent need to construct an office block for the Post Office befitting the status of the District.
