Five men arrested for murder

Police in Western Province have arrested five men for allegedly murdering a 28- year – old man.

 

The incident occurred on April 5th this year around 19:00 hours in Liumba area in Kalabo district.

 

The deceased has been identified as Musiwa Musasa of Mulambwa Township in Mongu district.

 

This is according to a statement made available to ZANIS by Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga.

 

It is alleged that the deceased was travelling to a certain area near Mulabo in the company of six friends when their vehicle broke down.

 

It was then that Musasa was sent to inform the villagers of the breakdown and on the way found a radio in the bush which he picked.

 

Some villagers then saw him and thought he had stolen the radio, as there had been a break-in into one of the shops in the area.

 

The villagers then descended on him as they mistook him for a thief.

 

The suspects have been identified as Katumbi Chisola aged 19 of Mbanji Village, Misheck Musangu aged 27 of Chiwaya Village, Imasiku Simushi aged 35 of Wazanga Village, Mafo Muyunda aged 23 of Chiwaya Village, and Biemba Mutambo aged 25 of Chinyanga Village all in Kalabo district.

 

All the suspects have been arrested and charged with murder contrary to section 200 of the penal code of the laws of Zambia and will appear in court soon, while the body of the deceased has since been buried.

 

And in Muchinga province, a 13 year old girl drowned after failing to swim.

 

The incident occurred on April 7th around 10:00 hours at Kapeta Village in Chinsali district.

 

The incident happened when the deceased went swimming with three others, then got into a dug-out canoe.

 

She then jumped off from the canoe into deep water, where she failed to swim and died.

 

The body was retrieved on the same day and has since been buried.
