Chipata farmers want inputs early
Chipata, April 3, 2013, ZANIS…..The Chipata district farmers union (CDFU) has called on government to come up with an efficient and effective distribution system for the 2013/2014 farming inputs.
Association co-ordinator Vigil Malambo says whether government implements the new system of distribution by electronic vouch or uses the old one the process should be carefully done for the benefit of the farmers.
Mr. Malambo told ZANIS in an interview in Chipata today that either of the two systems can work as long as the inputs are distributed to the farmers in good time.
He expressed concern that in the recent past the problem has been late distribution of the inputs which has negatively affected the farmers and crop production in most parts of the country.
He said this was why there is need for government to put in place stringent measures aimed at specifically addressing the late delivery of fertilizer and seed.
Mr. Malambo noted that farmers will support the new system of the E-vouch if only it will enhance the distribution process latest by November.
He further said that the country this year is threatened of hunger because of poor rainfall pattern coupled with late distribution of farming inputs.
Mr. Malambo added that the situation could have been different if farming inputs were given to farmers in good time for them to start their farming activities.
Government has announced that this year it will implement the E-vouch system to distribute farming inputs across the country to avoid late delivery.
The E-vouch system is a method were government will identify and engage Agro business entities in the distribution of inputs to farmers upon presenting a card.
