5000 jobs earmarked for western province
Kalabo, April 3, 2013, ZANIS ——- Government says the newly created districts in the western province are expected to employ about 5 000 local people.
President Michael Sata has created nine districts in the western province since he assumed office in 2011 as a policy measure aimed at taking development closer to the people.
Home Affairs deputy minister Nixon Chilangwa said the new districts in the western province was aimed at creating more jobs for the people in the area, bringing development closer to them and that this was part of the Barotse Agreement.
Mr. Chilangwa said this when he addressed Heads of Government Departments in the Council Chamber in Kalabo yesterday while on a tour of departments under his ministry .
Mr. Chilangwa also thanked Kalabo Member of Parliament (MP) Chinga Miyutu for accepting President Michael Sata’s appointment in the PF government as Sports and Youth Development Deputy Minister despite being a UPND Parliamentarian.
He said that this would help Mr. Miyutu easily foster development for the people of Kalabo who voted for him and not the UPND itself adding that MPs should engage government for development.
Mr. Chilangwa said that President Sata after his victory in the 2011 elections has embraced everyone despite some politicians who tried to portray a bad picture about him and has shown love, sympathy, compassion and forgiveness which Zambians should emulate.
And the Home Affairs deputy minister also disclosed that government will construct a bridge over the Zambezi river at Liyoyelo once the construction works of the Kalabo-Mongu Road are completed.
Mr. Chilangwa also said that border facilities in Kalabo and Shangombo districts as well as the Shangombo-Rivungu canal connecting Zambia to Angola would be done in order to facilitate trade between the two countries.
He also told the HODs that the digitalization exercise of National Registration Cards (NRCs) has started with Lusaka Province and will be followed by Central and Copperbelt provinces.
Mr Chilangwa said the exercise will be extended to the remaining seven provinces next year in 2013.
While in Kalabo, Mr. Chilangwa visited the Immigration department, the old Kalabo prison and new state prison currently under construction before ending his tour with the national registration and the Zambia Police departments.
