– Kalomo has reported a 95.8 per cent tuberculosis cure rate  from 94 per cent reported last year.

This has been disclosed by  district medical officer,  Kenneth Chibwe.

Speaking during the TB commemorations in Siachitema yesterday, Dr. Chibwe commended the health staff for working hard to achieve the high rate of cure despite working in difficult conditions.

And officiating at the same event district commitments, district commissioner, Brave Mweetwa said most children who are exposed to family members that have the disease were at high risk of contracting the disease .

“I call for intensified district solidarity to ensure that all people are free from fear of TB and its devastating effects. Let us vow to end the neglect of TB and to end deaths from this disease in our lifetime,” Mweetwa said, in a speech read on his behalf by his administrative officer, Justus Phiri.

This year world Tb day was under the theme, “ Stop Tb in our lifetime.”

And the Kalomo District Aids Task Force (DATF) has been rated among the best six districts out of 15 .

DAFT chairperson, Joseph Kaluwe said the achievement would enable the district to sub grant other local organs that are directly dealing with the HIV epidemic .

Meanwhile, the district has recorded 1,607 male circumcision cases whose operations were undertaken through its partners, the society for family health .
